Best Cafés in Old Town Phuket – Too Much Caffeine & Too Little Time

Reviews of Cafes in Old Town Phuket with great coffee and atmosphere.

Pro Tip: ask for no syrup or additional sugar for any smoothies you get in Thailand, you will thank me later 😊

#1 Hé House Home Cafe

Key Words: Specialty, Premium, and Unique

Avg. Drink Price (Baht): 350-400

Owned and operated by a family of mom & two daughters, Hé House Home Cafe is truly the gold standard of coffee in this town full of cafes. A quick introduction to the shop itself. This is a cafe that was opened during COVID as mom & daughters’ passion turned into a full-time career as SCA-certified baristas in their newly renovated ancestorial home. They only carry specialty coffee that they themselves source around the world and roast in the shop to perfection. The twin daughters both specialize in many ways of brewing coffee and have developed their palettes throughout the years. They only take about 2-5 reservations per day with the rest of the time continuing their craft in coffee.

#2 ROOF Pudding and Café

Key Words: Soho, Simple, Relaxed

Avg. Drink Price (Baht): 75-125

The look of the café is industrial rustic meets Soho chic. The space is very high ceilings and is open with water flowing throughout. There was water flowing from one of the tables, to the pond, to a mini pool on the other side of the café. Relaxing place to sip a coffee or sparkling house soda.

Sodas & Pudding

What they are really known for is in their name – pudding. Their egg-based pudding was soft and creamy. The two drinks we had were “The Passion” which is a passionfruit & soda & Lime Honey Soda. Both were very refreshing and not overly sweet, which we liked. The presentation was on point and made it feel very cocktail-like.

I have attached the menu here for those of you out there curious about what else they have.

Menu – Dec 2022

#3 Bookhemian

Key Words: Hipster, Library, Rustic

Avg. Drink Price (Baht): 100-200

A very quint café / bar with shelves of books for the café going to have a seat and enjoy some leisurely reading. We walked into this café during the Sunday Night Market. It was loud and crazy outside, but inside, it was quiet and extremely peaceful. Almost like an oasis in the center of all the people, food, and shops.

The two drinks we had were their holiday special, a hazelnut & coffee-based drink, and a mixed berry soda. The soda was quite sweet, but the hazelnut drink was great for sipping and very fitting for the time of the year with its toasted marshmallows.

The interior was also leveraging the old bones of the historic building but with a rustic feel with the unfinished walls. There were plenty of people sitting with a book or chatting with each other quietly, which made a very serene environment.

#4 Coffee Talk Old Phuket Town

Key Words: Historic, Open, Chill

Avg. Drink Price (Baht): 75-125

Cafe Interior

The café doubles as a museum for historical artifacts from the historic home it stands in. There were antique cameras, pots/pans, bikes, etc. displayed throughout the café. We chilled out at the café while waiting for our laundry in the 24Hr Laundry across the street.

We ordered a latte and a pineapple mint smoothie, and both were great. The drinks were not super special, but I think the environment and the chillness really made it feel different and inviting.

#5 MŌMUS coffee

Key Words: Sophisticated, Refined, Boutique

Avg. Drink Price (Baht): 100-175

This is another specialty coffee local that has many interesting drinks. The interior was very sophisticated and modern. Very clean lines with black and neutral color tones. Comfy couches and great wifi made it a good spot to camp out and do some work or reading while sipping on a cup of their unique creations.

My day started with their Sparkling Espresso. It was cold, refreshing, and full of caffeine. Exactly what I needed that day. The staff was very friendly and made some suggestions for pastries.

#6 MATASECONDFLOOR

Key Words: View, Quiet, Simple

Avg. Drink Price (Baht): 100-175

Christmas Tree

The café is a bit hard to find, as it is on the second floor (just like in its name) of a jewelry shop. It had a tall ceiling and white walls which made the café feel very relaxed & simple. There are two windows facing the busiest streets in Phuket Town. It is great to just have your cup of coffee while sitting in the AC and people-watch. Since we visited during the holidays, they had decorated a very skinny tropic tree with ornaments that were very funny in my eyes, and really appreciated it.

Latte & View

We ordered a matcha latte and a regular latte. The slow me did not ask them to not put sugar in the matcha latte which was quite sweet. But not their fault. We mostly just drank the regular latte, and it was great.
